Quit Smoking! Is There An Easy Way?

By Darryl Scoble

A lot of people attempt to quit smoking and most find it very hard if not impossible. So many smokers make numerous attempts to give up only to give up on the giving up. Why is it so hard? There must be an easier way for smokers to free themselves from the smoking habit and quit smoking for good.

There are two main factors involved when you decide to quit smoking. Yes, to quit smoking you first must decide to quit.

The first factor you need to overcome when you want to quit smoking is the physical addiction. We have all heard how addictive Nicotine is. Nicotine is what hooks smokers to the habit in the first place.

The physical addiction is due to your body becoming reliant on a steady source of Nicotine each day. When your body doesn’t get the Nicotine it is used to your body tries to tell you it needs it and you get cravings. If you don’t have a smoke for a reasonable length of time it will also affect your mood, making you become irritable and grumpy. This is all due to the fact you are addicted to Nicotine and your body has been convinced that it needs it.

The second factor I believe is the hardest factor to overcome and that is the psychological addiction. The psychological factors include your firmly set attitudes, mind sets and behaviours towards smoking.

Although there is the physical addiction to smoking there are also the less obvious habits you have developed over the years that you have been smoking. A great example of this is that most smokers enjoy their post-dinner smoke. They don’t physically need it but they have told themselves that it’s really enjoyable to have a smoke after dinner. The problem then, is when you decide to quit smoking you have all these psychological triggers, such as the after dinner smoke or the smoke you always have in the car on the way to work etc, that make the giving up process so much harder. In these situations it’s not necessarily the physical cravings that are making you want to have that smoke but rather those in-built habits in your mind.

When you quit smoking it takes just 3 days for your body to be free of Nicotine. The psychological factors however can take a lot longer to master and these are usually what make smoking so hard to give up. It’s not the Nicotine you have to beat it’s yourself that you have to win over if you want to quit smoking.

To finally Quit Smoking you need to make the firm decision to quit and you need to learn how to get through the psychological trials. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be hard to quit smoking. There is an easy way.
